An AI Powered, Cognitive Patient Care Assistant.
Each year thousands of hospital patients and care home residents suffer from adverse events in their rooms including falls, medication errors, procedural errors, and pressure-related injuries. These events are largely attributed to a lack of quality interaction with medical and care staff. Augi (formerly named iN) is the world's first cognitive patient care assistant.to employ a combination of computer vision, environmental sensing, and artificial intelligence to observe and analyze patient and staff behaviors in real-time.
AE Superlab collaborated closely with the teams at Inspiren and the engineers and developers at 10xBeta to develop the exterior look and feel of Augi.
An Adaptive Design for An Evolving Product.
AE Superlab worked with Inspiren to develop multiple versions of iN/Augi, evolving and refining the core design language to reflect the devices expanding roster of functions, capabilities, and requirements.
Consumer/Hospitality-Product Visual Language for Institutional Settings
Our brief from Inspiren was to create a device enclosure that while perfectly functionally suited for a healthcare environment, would feel more akin to a fixture that one might find in a high-end hotel room. The design needed to provide visual cues alluding to the cutting-edge technology contained within, but also to convey a sense of warmth and friendliness.
Materiality, Geometry, and Lightness
Given this direction, we recognized that our forms would need to be both soft and precise. Starting with a perfect circle, the most basic and pure of shapes, we began to derive our forms. Eschewing complex or organic derivations we extracted the segments, arcs, lofts, and tangents that would define our firm all from that initial circle. The result is a shape that is pragmatic, deliberate and friendly.
An Award Winning Design
Since it’s introduction Augi has garnered numerous awards and recognitions including an Edison Award, Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Award for Artificial Intelligence, and Time Magazine’s Best Inventions to name a few.
